Throw off the shroud, escape confinement---desire rejects reason's cruel refinement... Images perceived, foul actions concieved---pressure building, satisfy this unholy need... From ancient legend, unappended---dreadful repetition, another life ended. Unwary citizens intent, embroiled---in life's pursuit, mortality destined to be soiled.... A chance encounter, vicious carnage enacted---mortal death the price exacted.... Satisfaction achieved, pathetic husk discarded---breif death memories uselessly imparted... To one to whom such pitiful sharing---tis but a footnote, incapable of caring. Dark ancient predator,freely ranging---at large among us, filthy desire never changing... Hunger rampant, fell nature shamelessly displayed---man's sacrifice leaves lesser gods dismayed... Myth and darkness veil his movement---religion and doctrine boast meager improvement... Assyrian lunacy, imprudent preistly creation---assuming form in latter days, embraced by every nation. Succor forever denied... Only disdain for those who died! ©2007 ~davedoom51 "Hunger" is a poem I wrote awhile back. Adramelech is an asyrian diety sometimes referred to as Baal Adramelech by the ancient asyrian priests. In any event blood sacrifice of children was demanded by Adramelech (some historians believe vampirism was acknowledged during this period). This poem simply describes the rebirth of this ancient evil into the modern world and the acceptance by mankind of the rebirth "assuming form in latter days, embraced by every nation." In the last paragraph the symbolism is supposed to reflect mankind's willingness to sacrifice children willingly for a questionable cause....such as war. Hope that makes the intent clearer for you??!! I portray the demon demi-god Adramelech as a vampire unfeelingly feeding and casting aside his prey not even remembering them "Satisfaction achieved, pathetic husk discarded---brief death memories uselessly imparted... To one to whom such pitiful sharing---tis but a footnote, incapable of caring. To symbolize the acceptance of evil by mankind with no eye towards consequence. Finally in this vein, the last 2 lines simply show how humanity disdains the sacrifice of others ; "Succor forever denied... Only disdain for those who died!"
